I am delighted to see how Alpha has grown from 17 courses in 2005 to over 100 courses in 2008. I believe that God plans that Ireland will be again a light to the nations and that Alpha has a key role to play in this. An estimated 15,000 people have completed the Alpha course in Ireland to date. It is exciting to see so many people coming into a personal relationship with Jesus through the Alpha course here in Ireland.

I am inspired by Pope John Paul II’s challenge: “ The task which awaits you, new evangelisation, demands that you present with fresh enthusiasm and new methods the … Christian faith…It is not a matter of merely passing on a doctrine, but rather of a personal and profound meeting with the Saviour. ”

The Alpha Ireland office is in Glenageary, Co. Dublin and is there to serve you. It carries a wide range of Alpha material. It aims to be a resource to all Christian churches in this country.

Alpha in Ireland - Who is Responsible?

While Alpha has been running in Ireland since 1998, an Alpha Ireland Board was formed to promote Alpha in Feb. 2005. The Board currently includes Fr. Pat Collins, Ger Gallagher (Dublin Office for Evangelisation), Ray McNicholas, Evelyn Hamilton, Jackie Haughey, Basil Good, Pat Shannon, Helen Murray, Michael Fairley (all Dublin), Rev. Ken Wilson (Gorey), Michael Monks (Ennis), Sr. Brigid Dunne (Cork), Catherine Corkery (Longford) and in March 2005 Paddy Monaghan was appointed National Co-ordinator.

The Alpha Ireland Management Committee (See above) meets on a regular basis and the National Co-ordinator is acountable to this Committee and to the Board.
