The 60 second Alpha advert
The more recent cinema advert dramatically demonstrates the need for meaning in our lives. It was seen by 3 million people.
Alpha in Great Britain and Northern Ireland was being supported by a large media campaign in September 07, which includes the above ad. The ad was designed by Alastair Duckworth a 23- year old graphic designer who spent two and a half weeks, designing the animated film which depicts human life as a conveyer belt from birth to death with many wry touches of humour.
The one minute long film has been shown in all cinemas throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Alastair based the ad on a poster he had designed to advertise a student alpha course that he led in 2005. He said: “I wanted to show that the culture we live in is quite manufactured and so it can often feel that we are just on a treadmill which ultimately leads to death. The trick was to present death as a fact but in a funny way. I wanted it to be light- hearted but at the same time leave you with a bit of a shock at the end.”
